Long John (also known as Longjohn) is a standout blue plum developed at Cornell, named in honor of legendary plum breeder John P. Watson. This vigorous, upright tree has a graceful, willowy growth habit and sets fruit early and abundantly. It’s partially self-fruitful, but for best yields, pair it with another European plum like Mount Royal, Stanley, Castleton, or Victory for the most fruit.
Long John produces large, teardrop-shaped plums with dark purple-blue skin and a waxy bloom. Inside, the amber flesh is smooth, freestone, and firm—ideal for fresh eating, shipping, or drying.
